Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

Who lied to Adam and Eve?

What really happened in the garden of Eden? I was always taught that the serpent told the "first lie".

But what does the Bible say? The answer might shock you...

It's actually very straightforward...

In Gen 2v17 GOD said:
"...in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

In Gen 3v4-5, the SERPENT said:
"Ye shall not surely die...in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

So what ACTUALLY happened after they ate the fruit?
"And the eyes of them both were opened" (Gen 3v7)
"Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil" (Gen 3v22)

This confirms that the serpent's prediction was 100% correct.

Did they die "in the day they ate the fruit" as God said they would? No.

Read it as many times as you like.

The serpent told the truth.

It was God who told the lie.
