Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

Why don't you accept evolution?

Over 99% of the world's biologists accept evolution as fact, and there has been no change in that consensus for well over 100 years.

And yet the vast majority of Christadelphians seem to be confident that evolution is false. I wonder how many of them are actually qualified to make that assessment. I also wonder how many of them actually understand it well enough to refute it.

What about you? Do you understand evolution?
If not, here is your chance to tell me why...

WAIT!
Before you get all itchy fingers and start reaching for your Bible, let me just put the brakes on for a minute.

No amount of preaching from an ancient holy book is relevant here. None. For the purpose of this article I'm not interested in what the ancient Israelites or ancient Sumerians thought about how the earth was formed or where babies come from. It adds nothing to the conversation. Sure, you might believe that they got their story from an invisible man in the sky, but so what? Suppose they were mistaken. Suppose the sky fairy was lying, or speaking metaphorically. How could you know for sure? Sooner or later you're going to have to verify the claims for yourself, and that means rolling up your sleeves and doing some science, or at least reading about the scientific discoveries that others have already made.

Even if you believe that the Bible is true, that doesn't make evolution false. It might be that your interpretation of the Bible requires evolution to be false, but then perhaps you need to revise your interpretation. You may think that your interpretation of Genesis 1 is based on a simple natural reading of the text. It almost certainly isn't.

Many people believe that the Bible is true whilst also accepting that evolution is true, so the Bible itself clearly poses no threat to the acceptance of evolution. No amount of appeal to your interpretation of the Bible is enough to disprove evolution. It is irrelevant. Evolution stands on its own evidence. That is what you need to address if you want to argue against it.

The Bible and evolution are completely separate. Proving one of them true does not make the other false.

So let's leave the Bible aside for the moment. This is about the science of evolution.

Perhaps you have questions. Questions are great. Please ask as many as you like. Even better, use your questions as a platform for doing your own research. Write them down, and then add notes on what you find.

Here are a few to get you started:

Don't just assume you know the answers. If you do that you'll never learn anything. Imagine an atheist who thought they knew all the answers about the Bible. What would you tell them? Now point that back at yourself.

So why don't you understand or accept evolution? Please post your questions in the comments below.

Before posting a question however, please check the link below to see if there's an answer already given. If you don't understand the answer given, perhaps more information can be found by searching online. I may be able to help with that.

Please Note: Comments insisting that evolution must be false because your interpretation of the Bible is true, will be deleted. Please stay on topic. Thank you.
(In the meantime, you are welcome to argue with the other 2+ billion Christians in the world about why you think your interpretation is special)
